Senior Editor
(Remote) Imprint seeking a Senior Editor to acquire, develop, and manage a broad list of commercial fiction and select nonfiction titles. This role will also lead the strategic growth of the imprint’s signature fiction publishing program, and is ideal for an experienced editor with strong creativity, market awareness, and the ability to originate concepts and acquire outside projects. The Senior Editor will oversee the imprint’s fiction list, including approximately 4–6 original titles annually in horror, mystery, and similar commercial genres.
Main Responsibilities Include:
Lead acquisitions and list development across commercial fiction and select nonfiction, acquiring 8–10 titles annually and managing a fiction program of 4–6 original titles.
Identify market opportunities across horror, mystery, suspense, humor, speculative, and crossover fiction. Source projects through agents, submissions, creators, packagers, and internal development.
Develop original concepts and creator partnerships around fresh takes on genres, classics, pop culture, and innovative formats. Collaborate with writers, illustrators, IP holders, and other creative partners.
Edit and shape projects from acquisition through publication, including developmental editing, line editing, copy preparation, and production handoff. Develop acquisition memos, P&Ls, positioning, and sales materials.
Manage author and agent relationships and oversee schedules, contracts coordination, communications, and project milestones.
Partner with Sales, Marketing, Publicity, Design, and Production to position and launch titles effectively. Develop jacket copy, metadata, and other launch materials as needed.
Contribute to publishing strategy and team development by shaping the seasonal list, tracking market trends, championing fiction opportunities, and mentoring junior editorial staff.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills Include:
5+ years of book publishing editorial experience, with strong acquisitions experience
Proven track record acquiring and/or editing successful commercial fiction.
Strong knowledge of horror, mystery, suspense, and similar genre fiction markets.
Demonstrated ability to develop original concepts and collaborate creatively with authors.
Salary: 70-90K
