Executive Editor

(Remote) Newly created position of Executive Editor to join a well-known and established imprint. This role is a creative and strategic one, responsible for developing and executing the imprint’s editorial vision, in collaboration with the Publisher. The Executive Editor leads acquisitions and development of 10–12 original titles per year, and oversees a list of 25–30 new books annually. This role also manages one Editor and a shared Editorial Assistant, making sure the imprint’s publishing program continues to grow in quality, creativity, and commercial success. Entrepreneurial spirit is a must.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Conceive, acquire, and edit 10+ titles per year in fiction, nonfiction, and gift/pop culture categories aligned with brand identity and market potential

  • Identify emerging trends, authors, and creative talent

  • Guide authors and agents through concept, proposal, and manuscript stages

  • Develop original concepts and IP for in-house and licensed projects.

  • Collaborate with book packagers, licensors, and creative partners to bring unique book and gift products to market.

  • Participate in acquisitions meetings, list planning, and budget discussions.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills Include:

  • Minimum 7–10 years of editorial experience in trade publishing, with at least 3 years at a senior acquisitions level.

  • Must have proven track record acquiring and editing commercially successful titles in genre fiction, pop culture, nonfiction, or gift publishing.

  • Strong conceptual and creative development skills, with comfort developing IP or originating ideas in-house.

  • Experience managing staff and working cross-functionally with design, production, and marketing teams.

  • Must be familiar with both traditional and nontraditional publishing models, including packaged books, licensed content, and multimedia extensions.
