Community Editor, Fiction
(Remote) Publishing house seeking a Community Editor, Fiction. This role will be responsible for building a fiction list from and establishing a presence within the LitRPG, GameLit, and related progression fantasy space. The Community Editor will create an acquisitions pipeline of authors and creators, and will be responsible for the fiction categories within the company’s creator- and community-native publishing program. This role will report to the Director, Creator & Community Publishing and will be supported by the full design, production, sales, and marketing teams.
Main Responsibilities Include:
Build community presence across LitRPG, GameLit, progression and cultivation fantasy, cozy fantasy, serialized and web-native romance, and adjacent fandoms, becoming a trusted participant on the platforms where these communities engage.
Track emerging trends and talent and translate that intelligence into editorial strategy.
Identify and acquire proven community-native authors and creators whose work demonstrates audience demand.
Build and maintain a proactive acquisition pipeline through direct relationships with creators, agents, managers, audio producers, and platform contacts.
Evaluate acquisitions and build business cases, including P&Ls and clear assessments of the economics and growth potential of serialized, audio-first, and self-publishing-origin properties.
Own editorial development from acquisition through publication, working with authors on manuscripts, serials, and multi-volume properties.
Partner across Design, Production, Sales, and Marketing to position titles effectively across print, audio, box sets, and deluxe formats, while identifying opportunities for licensing and crossover into adjacent products and formats.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills Include:
Bachelor’s Degree
3–7 years of editorial, acquisitions, or publishing experience. Candidates from community-focused trade editing, self-publishing authorship, or audio acquisitions backgrounds preferred.
Demonstrated familiarity with community fiction genres, the platforms that grow them, and the reader behavior that pushes them
Track record of identifying platform-native creators
